WAYLAND: Dr. A. George Gols, died on December 29, 2021 following a period of declining health. He was born in Passaic, New Jersey on July 12, 1928 the son of A. Gols and Magdalena (Strasser) Gols. George was the husband of the late A. Corinne (Garlichs) Gols who died on May 5, 2020. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Cavallaro and her husband Mario and their son Joshua all of Sudbury. Lisa Florenzano and her husband Paul of Hingham and Lorie Gols of Natick.
He has been a resident of Wayland for the past 60 years and previously resided in Eugene, Oregon and Munich, Germany. He received his BS from Upsala College in New Jersey, his Masters from John Hopkins University and his PhD in Economics from the University of Oregon. For many years he was a VP at Arthur D. Little of Cambridge, a Professor at the Arthur D. Little Education Institute and worked as a Senior Consulting Economist with Cambridge Systematics. He was also President of A.G. Economics of Wayland and Manager of International Economics with Sun Oil in Philadelphia, PA. He served as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army Military Intelligence in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II.
George sat on several boards and was active in many groups such as Vice President, and Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Austro-American Association of Boston and enjoyed their events where he conversed with his many friends on many interesting topics. In 2019 he attended the 75th anniversry of the founding of the Association.
George and his wife were longtime members of First Parish in Wayland. George enjoyed skating, skiing, sledding, hiking in New England, esp. the White Mountains, his garden at the Wayland Community Gardens and his special spots at the Wayland Swim and Tennis Club and the South Seas Resort pool.
Private family services were held at the Gols family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland with the Rev. Stephanie May officiating.
