The legendary movie “The Sound of Music”, directed by Robert Wise, celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025. Released in 1965, the movie has become a beloved classic, telling the story of the von Trapp family and their escape from Austria during World War II, with its unforgettable music composed by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II

The Austrian Cultural Forum, in cooperation with the Press and Information Service at the Embassy, will organize a screening of “The Sound of Music” in early autumn at the Embassy of Austria. The “EU Open House Day” on March 10, 2025, will also be dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the movie.
A new stage production of “The Sound of Music” will launch at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on September 9, 2025, and tour the U.S. in 2025 and 2026.
