Dear Members and Friends,
We are very saddened to relate that Louise Hauser, our cherished member for many years, passed away on December 3, 2020 at the age of 99, two months before her 100th birthday. Louise was a noted educator and generous philanthropist to the Family Access of Newton (formerly known as the Newton Community Service Center) and a lifelong resident of Newton. Louise and her husband, Dr. George Hauser, who was a neuro-chemical researcher at the McClean Hospital and became a professor at Harvard Medical School, established the Louise and George Hauser Charitable Trust. George was the former chairman of the Austro-American Asociation Scholarship Committee. After losing George, Louise made a very generous contribution to our Scholarship Award Program in his name that provided financial resources for a number of recipients, allowing them to achieve their academic goals and dreams leading to successful careers. A gala celebration for Louise on her 99th birthday, with many of her Austro-American friends in attendance, was held last February. Louise was at her best and enjoyed every moment.
A memorial service will be held on December 15th, at 11:00 am at the Burke and Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington Street, West Newton, MA. Tel 617-527-0986. Contributions in her memory can be made to Rosie’s Place or Family Access of Newton.
We extend our deepest condolences to Louise’s many friends and especially to Gwendoline Thornblade.
